There is simply no way to cram every keyword and skill into a two-page resume without it turning into word soup. If you’ve landed here, it’s (hopefully) because you were already looking at my resume and wanted more context on how I might be right for a role at your organization.
In handy listicle format, here are my top five skills and a deeper look into how I use them:
1. Leadership and Team Management
I have nearly 20 years of experience in managing people and teams. Starting in pre-career roles managing coffeehouses up to supporting several junior and rising team members in my current role. Since 2023, I’ve managed full-time employees, interns, and two outside PR agencies. One focused on supporting media efforts in the U.S., and the other based in Bangalore, India, supporting global media efforts. Additionally, I oversaw monthly marketing all-hands meetings and bi-annual company-wide live updates, providing guidance, training, and design support for the presentations and leaders.
2. Project Management
I have a proven track record of successfully managing complex projects. I’m a top-down processor who enjoys the challenge of looking at the big picture before picking it apart to build the steps that will get us to the finish line. Here are a few highlights of projects I’ve managed in the last decade:
- In 2019, I led a nonprofit’s executive board through a series of exercises to rebrand their organization. We knew the name and their visual brand elements, website, and print collateral needed to change. It was a big undertaking, but through facilitated workshops to get at their value proposition, what they wanted to keep most from their existing brand equity, and what they were looking to relay with a new brand, we were able to completely relaunch inside of six months! The work lives on in the community I live in, and I’m exceptionally proud to see billboards and bus stops with branding efforts I led still in use.
- During the height of the COVID-19 lockdown, I supported efforts to turn a decades-long annual fundraiser into something compelling enough to attend virtually. The client was a public university that relied on the yearly event to nearly entirely fund a program that provided more than $5 million in annual scholarships to low-income and first-generation students in the community. Through pre-recorded segments, socially-distanced celebrity engagement, and thoughtful media outreach, the re-imagined event raised nearly $6 million while reducing the overall event cost. The annual event is now conducted live again,n with elements of the virtual framework still in place to encourage additional fundraising efforts for those unable to attend in person.
- I’ve launched an employer brand function at an ed tech start-up, building the program and brand guidelines from the ground up. Building on that, I led the efforts to update the corporate career site, then supported the launch of employer brand campaigns in two international markets from my seat in the U.S. After that, with no where to go but up still, I helped develop the framework, governance, strategy and deployment of a global intranet and internal communications function.
3. Media Relations
When I started my career, I worked for a government affairs agency in Las Vegas, NV. I had some incredible opportunities there to grow and learn. Still, my favorite thing I got to do was lead international media tours of the local arts district. A few times a month, I’d meet a tourism journalist at my favorite local gallery and walk them around the 18b Arts District for the afternoon. We’d chat about local artists, the area’s history, and local businesses driving renewed economic growth to a historically downtrodden part of town.
Helping artists, makers, entrepreneurs, and small business owners extend their media reach to international publications is one of the highlights of my career.
Since then, I’ve helped businesses, executives, and public good organizations of all sizes and shapes garner earned media in print, digital, television, and audio markets.
In my current role, I lead external media efforts for employer brand, corporate, and executive thought leadership, managing an outside agency partner for earned media and awards. My strategic oversight with our domestic and international agency partners has resulted in many high-value media placements. I also work with several executives on messaging alignment and talking points, ensuring that all executive communications reflect the company’s mission and values.
4. Internal Communications
I have made significant contributions to internal communications by laying the groundwork for the new corporate communications function and intranet at a global edtech company. While balancing my role leading employer branding and recruitment marketing efforts, I also supported the development of updated processes and workflows to ensure company-wide communications were delivered efficiently.
5. Insightfulness
I excel at understanding complex issues and providing thoughtful solutions. I understand the importance of aligning messaging and talking points with an organization’s values and mission. I have worked closely with executives to ensure this alignment across many industries, markets, and scales. My ability to form relationships, elevate messaging disconnects, and establish processes for content review is often called out by my team and supervisors as being where I make the biggest impact.
